Friday Faves

Hi friends! Happy Friday and hello from Phoenix. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m here for the Beautycounter LEAD conference and looking forward to catching up with blog friends and meeting some truly inspiring ladies who work in this industry. The fun officially begins today, but we had an awesome dinner last night at True Food Kitchen — one of our frequent dinner stops when we lived in San Diego.

True food appetizers

We shared the roasted brussels sprouts, the cauliflower (which was amazing with medial dates and spices) and the enormous cruditรฉs plate.

For my entree, I rolled with the ol’ classic: the kale salad + salmon = side of sweet potato hash.

My faaave

I’m off to the day’s adventures and will be sure to share the fun on IG and here on the blog on Monday!

For now, let’s chat about some faves! Here are some of the things I’m lovin’ this week. I always enjoy hearing about your faves, too, if you’d like to join in the fun in the comments section.

Fitness:

If you need a new song to pump you up for workouts, this is my latest workout jam. Sometimes they’ll play it during a Peloton class and it’s SO catchy that I added it to my personal workout and teaching playlist.

Physical fitness protects brain health.

Important info for all of my mama friends!

Why more Western doctors are prescribing yoga therapy.

Good eats:

Summer salads! This one was so fresh and had the best combo of flavors: spinach, deli turkey, strawberries, feta, basil, and balsamic dressing + homemade sourdough on the side.

Summer salad

Kyle has recently gotten into bread baking – of course, his very first loaf was 8000x better than the ones I’ve been making for over a year – and we’re all reaping the benefits. ๐Ÿ˜‰ While the Pilot was deployed, I opened the fridge and my jar of starter jumped out and exploded all over the floor. I never got around to ordering a new one, so I was pumped when Kyle shared some starter with me. Even though, I have to say, eating the loaf of bread that he made was way more enjoyable than making it myself.

Kyles sourdough

New healthy Trader Joe’s finds.

22 ways to use my favorite seasoning.

Easy, healthy mocha protein balls.

Happy Friday, friends!

The great sleep update

Hey, everybody. Hope you’re having a lovely morning! I’ve had requests to provide some details on the sleep “challenges” that we’ve worked through. Of course, it’s important to emphasize the fact that what works for one family or kid won’t work for another. Some things that we did with Liv are totally ineffective with P, and the other way around. There are families who allow their kids to sleep in their beds, families who have their kids’ beds in the parents’ room, kids who have slept in their crib/bed from day one, kids who share beds, or a combination of all of the above. It’s all about choosing the best method for your family for that particular time. So, here’s what worked for us (or at least allowed us to survive), per many requests, but I feel a little vulnerable in posting this. Please be kind ๐Ÿ™‚

The great sleep update. How we got our 3 year old and 7 year old to fall asleep in bed and stay there all night :)

Whew! Here we go.

So we’ve had some…unique sleeping situations, especially since we’ve moved a lot (Liv has moved 4 times already) and the Pilot also travels frequently for work. When the girls were babies, we followed The Baby Whisperer’s method. It taught the girls how to fall asleep on their own, but didn’t involve “crying it out.” (I know that intense sleep training and crying it out works well for a lot of families, but it wasn’t something I wanted to do.) Using her methods (eat, activity, sleep, you time), the girls were pretty excellent sleepers from when they were babies until they were about 2 1/2. It was a little earlier for P, since she decided to catapult herself out of the crib for the first time when she was around 14 months old. This was when they realized they could get OUT of their room, and from then on, sleep was kind of a disaster.

We’ve had nighttime visitors sporadically for many years. It wasn’t every night, and in most cases, we could convince them to go back to sleep after walking them back to their room. Having said that, there were plenty of nights when an irreconcilable little face of tears just didn’t want to go back to sleep on her own. Since we were often too exhausted to deal with it, we’d either sit in their room until they fell back asleep or let one or both of them crawl into bed with us. For a while Liv was waking up multiple times throughout the night, so as a temporary solution in our busy lives, we let her sleep in a cot on our room. When we finally ditched the cot after a move, we tried to incorporate more consequences for the nights when they come into our room. However, this method proved ineffective, because in the middle of the night, they didn’t care about consequences to their actions in their delirious, half-asleep state. We tried putting them in a bed together to see if it would help, but it didn’t make a lasting difference over the long term.

All of this took place AFTER we got them to sleep which could be a struggle on its own. Sometimes to get them to sleep, we would find ourselves stuck in what we jokingly called “bed jail”: lying with them until they fell asleep. The reason for this was because even if one girl fell asleep just fine, the other might have some anxiety about it, then she would cry out and wake the other. It was a vicious cycle. For some people in a similar situation, it’s worked to just lock the door (switch their doorknobs to lock it from the outside) to force them to just cry it out and deal with it, but that’s not how we wanted to handle it. I remember what it felt like to be small and very afraid of the dark and being alone at night, so we wanted to find a solution that avoided the potential for that.

This is a tough sleep situation for two people, but it because virtually impossible to survive with just one. So, when the Pilot left for his deployment, I let the girls stay in our bed when they came in during the night, and after a few months of multiple nights of inadequate sleep, I let them fall asleep in our bed. I will say that for those few months, we slept amazingly. During winter break, we slept in until 9 or 9:30 most mornings and it was MAGICAL. But the deal was when Tom came home, they had to start sleeping in their own rooms. When he came home, we found ourselves back in the old, imperfect sleep patterns. We knew this wasn’t sustainable, so Tom did a bunch of research, and we reached out to an expert for advice because nothing we tried was working.

Now, after chatting with Heather from Sleep Shop and following her steps in combination with this sleep plan, they both fall asleep on their own, sleep in their own rooms…and stay there all night. No locked doors, no drastic consequences, and no meltdowns.

I NEVER thought this would happen.

It took consistency, and about 3-4 nights of being awake a good part of the night, but we did it!!!

Obviously, I can’t post everything Heather told me to do on the blog – that’s how she makes $$ – but here are some of the things that helped:

Having a true bedtime routine that starts about the same time every night. All of the steps were usually the same, but now we follow them in a precise order so they know bedtime is coming: bath (if I don’t wash their hair I just put it in a high bun), jammies, brush teeth, read them 2 books, goodnight.

– Explaining the rules of the during the day as a heads up and before bed, after books, as a reminder. For them, knowing that we’d check on them every 10 minutes until they fell asleep (even in the middle of the night) was huge in cutting their anxiety to virtually zero. After the first few nights, they know we no longer check on them after 10 minutes if they happen to come out of their bed in the middle of the night, and they’re content to just be walked back to bed and tucked in. Now we typically only check on Liv once, and maybe a few times with P.

– Walking them back to bed, every.single.time they came out of their room. This is exhausting and we probably walked them back 300 times the first night. After the first night, we took shifts. The Pilot got the 11pm- 3am shift and I did 3am-7pm.

The Ok to Wake clock. Liv hated this thing but it works beautifully for P. She’s so proud of herself each morning when she’s stayed in her bed until her clock is green.

– Getting some extra sound machines. Upstairs was way too quiet and even though Liv had a sound machine, we also got one for P’s room.

– Consistency. This is where I’m terrible but the Pilot is a rockstar. I was SO tempted to just lie in bed with them or let them come into our room just once, especially when they were coming out of bed 8,000 times (and when P was under the weather), but once we committed, this wasn’t an option. He helped me keep my eye on the prize.

– Remembering that it always works! Heather was so reassuring and she said that it always works, but for some kids, it takes longer, up to 2 weeks. When we committed, we were ready to be totally sleep-deprived for 2 weeks, but it only took 5 nights. Each night was easier than the last.

So there ya go! We’re sleeping like normal humans and IT IS AMAZING.

I was hesitant about writing this post because I’m the opposite of a sleep expert – we slept terribly for years haha – but if you need help, I highly recommend Sleep Shop. We had such a great experience, and they don’t know I have a blog or anything like that. It was the best $100 I’ve ever spent.

50-40-30-20-10 Workout

Hi friends! How are you? I hope you’re having a great morning. We’re enjoying spring break and using it as an opportunity to enjoy some extra fun and adventures together. Yesterday, I took the girls rock climbing for a couple of hours at Bloc, and today I think we’re going to go roller skating. ๐Ÿ™‚

For today, I have an all-new workout for ya. This one plays with reps, which is one of my favorite methods for making a workout fly by. And at first glance, please know that you do NOT have to do 50 burpees. (How horrible would it be if you had to do 50 of each exercise, then 40, then 30, etc.? DEAD.) The reps decreasing as you go down the list for each exercise, so you only have to do 10 burpees at a time. I’m not that mean.

Here’s what the workout looks like:

50-40-30-20-10 Workout! Play with rep structure and your workout will fly by! Get the form cues and details at fitnessista.com

(lululemon tank // Fabletics leggings // APL sneakers)

Form cues and tips:

Air squats: Stand with feet hip-width or slightly wider, and toes slightly turned out. Focus on sitting back, while keeping your chest lifted and a tight core. Inhale to lower, exhale to rise. Make sure that your knees go towards your toes, but not far past your toes. Sink your hips as low as your flexibility allows, whether it’s a small squat, or to hips just above knee level. You can squat lower than knee level if it works for you, but generally it’s not something that I recommend.

Air squat

Walking lunges: For your lunge setup, make sure your feet are hip distance apart, and think about sinking down instead of forward as you lunge. Watch the front knee to make sure it doesn’t extend past your toes. When you lift up to come to standing and switch legs, lift the back leg up behind you (squeeze your booty!) before bringing it forward.

Walking lunge

Triceps dips: Place your hands on a bench behind you. Either bend your knees with your feet flat on the floor or straighten your legs in front of you for more of a challenge. For even more of a challenge, place a flat plate on your legs. Bend your elbows straight back and keep your back close to the bench. Keep your chest lifted and shoulders down. Push back to start.

Triceps dip

Push-ups: On your knees, toes, or modified against a wall. Keep your hips down in line with your spine, and exhale, squeezing your chest, to rise.

Gina Harney Favorites 0047

Burpees: Sit into your squat and bring both hands to the floor, firmly planting your entire hand. Walk or hop back to a plank position (push-up here optional), walk or hop your feet back to your hands, and jump vertically, raising your arms overhead.

Jump

Please let me know if you give it a try! See ya in the morning with the great sleep post update. ๐Ÿ™‚

Dinner at the date spot

Hi friends! How was the weekend? Hope you had a wonderful one. To be honest, we spent a LOT of ours buried beneath boxes from Valdosta. I’m happy it all arrived but at the same time, I feel like sine we lived without it for 9 months, maybe we don’t really need it? Then I’ll be sorting through something and find an important document or treasure and am glad we’re taking the time to go through everything. We sorted through boxes for hours this weekend and I feel like we’ve hardly made a dent. The Pilot has made so many trips to Goodwill and recycling, and I’ve been working hard at selling and donating the things we don’t need. I’m excited to hopefully be able to park our cars in the garage again this week! #thelittlethings

Poshmark fail

(Bell and Caro helped immensely with my Poshmark photos.)

I’m so thankful for our new playset for keeping the girls entertained while we were putting stuff away! It was a lifesaver and they had a blast together, enjoying this gorgeous weather. Even though we were in major productivity and purge mode, we still escaped for some fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

We made a stop downtown for the 4th ave street fair. As usual, it was absolutely packed with people and vendors. There were lots of artisan-crafted goods: clothing, candles, gifts, food, etc. We rode the streetcar downtown for the first time, and it made transportation so much easier than trying to find a parking spot close to 4th ave. We parked by campus, hopped on the streetcar, and were a short walk away from the festivities.

My lil gooses

We got there just in time for lunch: tacos, nachos, and fruit cup from a Mexican food stand.
If you haven’t had fresh fruit with lime juice and Tajin spice on top, you haven’t liiiiived. It’s one of my favorite summer treats and the Tajin reminds me of my childhood.

Fruit cup

After we were fueled up, we walked the length of the fair, checking out all of the booths. We didn’t end up making any large purchases, but picked up a puppy toy for Liv and a Batman cape for P.

Dinner was at the date night spot: P.F. Chang’s! It’s hard to believe that almost 14 years have passed since the Pilot and I had our first date here. I remember so many vivid details about that night: what I wore (it took a lot of deliberation at Forever21), how nice he smelled (Armani Code), how we chatted for 3 hours without stopping, the fact that he ordered lettuce wraps to share (the messiest first date food ever), and how I had to keep saying, “no, thank you” to his offers to get a bottle of wine at least three times before I told him I was only 20. ๐Ÿ˜‰ After the date, we walked a few doors down to Starbucks and talked for another two hours before calling it a night. After I left (to a hug and a kiss on the cheek), I immediately drove to where my best friend was babysitting – we were all friends with the family who she was sitting for, so it wasn’t weird- and told her I was going to marry him.

Pf changs

It was pretty magical to take the girls back to where it all began. In my mind I saw myself sitting in the booth, silently crying at the beauty of it all, but in reality I had to convince the girls that chopsticks weren’t for sword fighting or to be used as drumsticks. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (They’ve eaten with chopsticks before and are usually super chill at restaurants, but I guess they were feeling a little wild after our street fair adventures.) We share a family-sized bowl of egg drop soup that the girls LOVED, chicken lettuce wraps, spicy chicken, orange peel shrimp, and the girls shared chicken lo mein. It had been years since I’d been to P.F. Chang’s and it was really good. I was bloated and parched from all the sodium, but sometimes you just need that in your life.

Sunday morning, it was more unpacking (wah) while the girls played outside, and I caught a 45-minute Live DJ Peloton class. Later that evening, our sitter came over and the Pilot and I headed to The Event at La Encantada.

The Event is an annual fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Tucson, with over 50 local participating restaurants. Each restaurant provided tasting plates, along with wine, beer, and cocktails.

The event la encantada 3

They also had raffles – oh I love a good raffle haha – and the best live country music.

Of course we had to see what Kyle was cooking up, along with the amazing Prep & Pastry and Commoner & Co. crew.

Some more pics of the food and event:

My date is so nice

(Note: it should be mandatory for all plates to have a wine holder)

We thoroughly enjoyed walking around, snacking and wine-ing our faces off, and running into friends and family while we were there. We’ll definitely be back next year! All of the food was incredible, and it amazed me how high the quality of the food was for the scale and how many plates each vendor had to prepare. There were easily over a thousand people. Some of the standouts were the ramen from Culinary Dropout (I need to go there ASAP), the grilled cheese with tomato bisque from Prep & Pasty (YUM), and the steak and mashed potatoes from Fleming’s. SO good.

The dutch

(Dessert-wise, we both went crazy for these Poffertjes, like tiny pancakes with powdered sugar, from The Dutch)

Starting today, the girls are on spring break and I’m so happy they’re home. We’ll probably enjoy a slow morning in our jammies before we get ready to head out for some fun.

I hope you have a happy Monday and I’ll see you soon!

xo

5 Simple Ways to Lose Belly Fat

5 Simple Ways to Lose Belly Fat

The Fitness Membership That Saved Me From Sitting at a Desk All Day

This article was created in partnership with Peerfit.

My weekday routine goes a little something like this: Sit and drink coffee. Sit and boot up computer. Check hair in bathroom mirror to make sure dry shampoo doesn't look like dandruff. Sit and work. Small talk with coworkers. Sit and work. Bathroom break. Sit and work. Lunch at desk. Sit and work. Maaayyybe make it to the gym before crawling home for dinner, where I sit on my butt some more and reflect on how tired I am.

You get where I'm going with this. If sitting was an exercise, my bum would be in amazing shape—like superhero-in-tights-shape. Sadly sitting doesn't really do us any favors. And I should know: I'm so freaking good at it.

While the solution is fairly obvious—stand up, doy—giving in to that sedentary life is so easy. That's why Peerfit is my butt's new BFF.

Imagine a fitness subscription that lets you sign up for a range of fitness classes and gyms near your office without any blackout times or price hikes. That's Peerfit in a nutshell, but it gets better: Peerfit works with employers and your insurance to foot the bill, and it comes with social networking tools so you can coordinate workouts with friends at the office.

Here's how it works:

  • Create a personal or corporate account. If your insurance/company won't chip in, you can get a subscription for $8.95 a month, then pay a discounted member rate for each class you book.
  • Find your gym or a workout class. You can filter your search by type (boxing, dance, HIIT, yoga) and reserve your spot with one click.
  • Grab a friend. Once your class is booked, you can sync it to your calendar and invite coworkers with an email invite or social media event or by sharing a special link.
  • Sweat and save your butt from another full day in a chair.

I can attest that the system works. Our associate fitness editor (and wonderful pal) Jamey Powell lured my hermit self into the world with a boxing invite. After an hour of winded jokes, punches, and kicks, I felt totally revived and ready to annihilate my to-dos. A few days later, I kept the momentum going with a lunchtime session at my favorite NYC studio, 305 Fitness. It's weird how making time for exercise becomes second nature when you've got a mile-long list of classes to try and good friends to sweat with.

So look, sitting might not be the new smoking, but being active with friends has benefits on benefits. Wouldn't you rather give your desk a break and do your body and mind some good? Trust me when I say I can't think of a $9-per-month subscription with more value than Peerfit. My butt totally agrees.

The Easiest Way to Make New Friends at Work

This article was created in partnership with Peerfit.

No matter how cultivated your social skills are, starting a new job always feels like the first day of school. You agonize over an outfit the night before, wonder who you'll sit with at lunch, and have nightmares of getting stuck in the elevator with your new boss (just us?).

Work friendships can be complex, but there's no denying it's nice to have a buddy in the office. So what's the best way to find your BFF when you're brand spankin' new? We teamed up with our friends at Peerfit to find out. Peerfit makes it easy to book workout classes and invite folks to join you, which is convenient because one of the quickest ways to meet people at work is surprisingly simple: sweat together.

No, not the nervous kind of sweat that makes your shirt feel uncomfortably damp—we mean exercise-induced sweat. We work out to relieve stress and better our overall mental and physical health, right? Exercising with a colleague means you get to share all those stress-busting, endorphin-pumping good vibes. Plus...

1. Working out together forces you to open up.

We're our most real selves while exercising (it's hard to fake a state of calm when you're gasping for breath in Spin class or slamming away at a punching bag). While you might feel self-conscious at first, by the end of class you're both likely to have let your guard down. After all, nobody looks like they have their life together after a round of burpees.

2. Group workouts inspire camaraderie (and even a little friendly competition).

Misery loves company! Pick a workout where you have to partner up or work next to each other. Peerfit, a platform that lets you sign up for workouts at thousands of different gyms and studios across 48 states, is an easy way to organize an out-of-office hangout. With a few clicks, you can book bags for boxing, bikes for cycling, or mats for om-ing, so you can commiserate, high-five, or compete to see who can hold a plank the longest.

And the best part? Peerfit works with employers and insurance carriers to pay for the classes. If it's not part of your new gig's benefits (you can check here), sign up for a personal subscription—for just $8.95 per month, you’ll get the same access. Just pay per class at a discounted member rate, and you're good to go.

3. It's healthier than happy hour.

It's not breaking news that working out is better for your overall health than boozing it up. A lot of the reasons people drink together (to socialize, gripe, relieve stress) are also good reasons to work out together, so why not schedule fitness classes like they're social events? It'll also hold you accountable. And, hey, maybe you grab drinks after the workout—we're not saying you can't have it all. Just make sure you eat and hydrate first.

Connecting with a colleague in a stress-relieving environment has been shown to seriously improve overall health and even support personal weight-loss goals. And don't forget: One in five people meet their significant other at work (!!), so who knows where one sweat date could lead? Just keep your chin up, newbie. Leave that gym bag where your coworkers can see it, and you'll have a few new friends in no time.

Friday Faves

Hey hey! Happy weekend to ya! What do you have going on? The girls are on spring break and I’m pumped for the next week with them. I have a little bit of work travel coming up, and other than that, we’ll be gardening, playing at the park, taking random adventures, sleeping in, and enjoying some extra time together. This weekend, there are quite a few fun things happening in Tucson. It’s the street fair and there’s a huge culinary event on Sunday. I’d love to hear what you have going on!

Cactus

Lil sisters

(Liv loves carrying her sis around. They are the funniest little friends)

Earlier this week, I had a change to meet up with an Instagram friend for barre and margaritas. I connected with Natalie from Happily Pink and we decided to plan a little meet-up. Class was really challenging and fun, and then we headed next door to Blanco to close the place down chatting about blogging and life. If any Tucson friends are interested in doing a similar meet-up (barre and margaritas!) please let me know in the comments and I’ll start planning. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s time for the weekly Friday Faves party! This is where I share some of my favorite reads, wears, eats and finds from the week, and I always love to head about your faves, too. Please shout out something you’re loving in the comments below!

Fashion + beauty:

You guys, I got my eyebrows threaded for the first time EVER yesterday. I still don’t really know how I feel about the experience. I’ve always gotten them waxed (Anastasia at Nordstrom is my very favorite place) but my eyebrows always break out horribly afterwards. I thought I’d figured out the solution, which was witch hazel followed by jojoba oil, but my skin still looked a bit red and damaged. So many of you told me via Instagram that you do threading because it’s gentler on the skin, so I decided to give it a try!

I found a place with awesome reviews and thought it was very cute and clean. The tech who did my brows wasn’t warm or friendly in the least – it doesn’t matter to me if they’re nice, but please don’t screw up my face, k?- and swiftly went to work on my brows. I felt like she attacked them a little? The sensation was totally bizarre, like a riiiiiiiippppp across my skin as she tugged on the thread. I also had discarded eyebrow hair all over my face afterwards. But hey, they look pretty great AND my skin isn’t irritated at all. I’m waiting to see if I still get the dreaded breakout, but so far so good.

Tell me friends: are you team wax or thread?

This dress is so cute but I’m skeptical about the one size. Has anyone tried this brand??

Fitness:

Try out this lean, strong leg workout.

A spring workout plan for youuuuu.

YouTube cardio workouts.

Step HIIT for lower body.

Good eats:

Kyle, Meg and Everly came over last night for an impromptu dinner. We were just hanging out so I asked if they wanted to come chill, especially since Kyle is off work on Thursdays. He brought incredible homemade sourdough pizza dough and some toppings, while I provided salad, wine, and brownies with peanut butter frosting. We had the best pizza and dessert, the kiddos played while the adults drank wine (minus poor Meg who’s at the end of her pregnancy! Baby August will be here so soon) and talked in the kitchen. It was perfect. <3

Pizzaaaa

(A true pizza masterpiece. I got an awesome Boomerang of Kyle flipping the dough into the air. #legit)

Wine

(This is my latest favorite wine from Trader Joe’s. It’s organic and has a very smooth taste with hint of berries.)

Random: I’m so into plain dried mango right now.

Dried mango

Reunited with Daily Harvest! I took a little break because I’ve been enjoying putting my own smoothies and bowls together, but these are so convenient. They also pair ingredients that I wouldn’t think to combine. I love these for quick and easy lunches and breakfasts! If you’ve been wanting to give it a try, my referral link gives you 3 free cups.

Smoothie delivery

Read, watch, listen:

I can’t wait to see Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers.

Brenรฉ Brown is getting her own Netflix special and I’m so here for it.

YAY Shorty and Little!

For all the parents out there.

Happy Friday, friends!

Trunk Club Review

Hi friends! Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a wonderful morning. A few people have asked where the podcast has been, and I’m going to have it back up starting June 4. I’ve been using this time to record some incredible interviews – I can’t wait to share them with you – and come up with a more concrete plan for the podcast and where I want it to go. I’m a big fan of launching products and tweaking them as I go to make them better, so that’s what I’m working on now. Think of it like a relaunch party and I hope you’ll join me for the fun!

For today, I thought I’d share my first Trunk Club experience and the whole process. A little note: this post isn’t sponsored in any way – I paid for the service using my own $ and the pieces I decided to keep. If you decide to check it out for yourself, my referral link is is here!

After a few underwhelming Stitch Fix boxes, many of you recommended Trunk Club. Since spring is here and I was in the mood to try out something different, I decided to give it a whirl.. and was pleasantly surprised.

TRUNK CLUB REVIEW 2

Here’s how Trunk Club works:

– You fill out a style profile online and are matched with a stylist.

– Your stylist will ask any additional questions via email or through the app and will start to pack your trunk. I also had a quick call with Haley so I could go over some of the styles I prefer and any challenges I’ve encountered. (For example, I still have no clue how to dress my body since I got my implants taken out. Everything feels boxy or too big in the wrong places.)

– Once your trunk is prepared, you have the option to delete pieces from the trunk and provide input on why you don’t need/want that particular item

– If needed, the pieces are replaced by alternate options and the trunk is shipped!

Once I received the giant box, I couldn’t wait to try everything on!

Here’s what I received in my first Trunk Club box:

Madewell top and frame shorts

Madewell camisole // FRAME Le Cutoff shorts (sandals are from last year)

Vince jumpsuit

Leith strappy jumpsuit (Tried to take a side pic to show you the wide cut of the legs, but it just ended up looking weird)

French connection dress

French Connection Coral Minidress (I felt very Cher Horowitz in this dress)

Madewell top and dl1961 crops

Trunk club review 3

Slide sandals // Cole Haan low-tops // Vince slip-ons

Not pictured:

Rails plaid tank (already own a few of these)

Madewell tie Front Tee (already have these)

and rag & bone skinny jeans (cut off my circulation)

Pros + if Trunk Club is worth it:

– The trunk was HUGE. It had four tops, one dress, one jumpsuit, two jeans, one pair of shorts, and three pairs of shoes. Even though I knew I wasn’t going to keep everything, it still totally felt like Christmas morning haha.

Trunk club review 2

– The quality. Trunk Club is owned by Nordstrom, which is easily my favorite spot to shop online, so I knew what types of clothing I’d be receiving. It also made it helpful when I chatted with my stylist because I could share my favorite Nordstrom brands.

– The app! It was fun to be able to chat with Haley via the app. I never felt like it was overwhelming and was just a simple way to answer her questions. If you decide to sign up, I highly recommend using the app because it makes it so easy to correspond with your stylist and check the status of your trunk.

Trunk club app

– In the app, you can add pieces to your virtual wardrobe that you already own, and it populates the items that you’ve purchased. From here, your stylist can create outfits for you. SO COOL, RIGHT??

Cons:

– Since it’s through Nordstrom and I shop there quite a bit, I received some things I already own. I had already deleted some pieces from the first trunk because I already had something similar and didn’t want to be a pain, so I knew a couple of pieces would arrive that I wouldn’t need.

– Higher price points. This definitely comes with the quality aspect of it. Initially, I was sure if they price-match and was able to find the Madewell camisole online for a better price, so I bought it online. (Note: they do price-match! My app reflected the new price when I went to check out.)

In the end, I kept the low-top sneakers (I’ve been needing a new pair and these were so comfy + love the soft pink color) and ordered the camisole online. I’m going to lurk these shorts until they go on sale and snag a pair. I was on the fence about the jumpsuit and the red dress, so I decided to send them back. I’ve found that whenever I debate clothing purchases, I don’t end up wearing them as much. The ones I wear and love are the ones I say, “YESSS!” to immediately upon seeing them.

I think that overall, Haley really nailed my style and the types of things I like.. and this was the first trunk! I didn’t think, “Ew” about a single item in the trunk. I can’t wait to see how they get better over time.

If you’re curious about trying Trunk Club, my referral link is here! I hope you love it as much as I do.

Have a beautiful day and I’ll see ya in the morning with some faves.

xoxo
